Lung Development

~Month 1: This is when the tiny lungs begins to first become visible in the fetus.

~ before being born the allveoli produce a fluid known as surfactant which keeps the lungs moist and enhances gas exchange

~  Month 2: The bronchial tree and major airways begin to form

~ Babies do no need to breath prior to being born since they recieve all their oxygen through the umbilical chord

~ Month 3-4: The parts of the lungs that are responsibe for gas exchange begin to develop

~ Up unitl delivery the fetus' lung are filled with amniotic fluid which is realeased into the tissue as the cub begins to take its first breath.

~ Month 5-7: At this time the fetus has enough lung elasticity so that it can berath regularly outside of the womb

~ Though the lungs are capable of being used between ages 1-3 the lungs continue to grow until about age 3

~If the cub is born before 7 months they are in jeopardy because the lungs have not fully developed and therefore are very fragile which inturn could cause them to collapse

~ If the cub is born with any complications this can affect many other vital organs in the body since oxygen is needed in all parts of the body for the cub to function
